This is the second time I have seen this whole idea of "Offense" against Iran. Get them before they get us. The guy at the end was talking that way. It's bothersome.

A foreign policy of strict non-interventionism is the only proper pro-freedom position. The warfare state is one of the biggest excuses for the centralized, big spending government they decry.

Anybody else notice that Shelley doesn't really get the chance to say much ever? Peter kinda 'helps her along' a bit too much. I love em all though

Judge,
I'd like to see you differentiate between preventive war and preemptive war, because I think a lot of disagreement among libertarians could be cleared up by a proper distinction.
To use Brook's analogy. If a guy is running after you with a machine gun threatening to shoot you, and doesn't stop when the police tell him to, and they shoot him, that is a preemptive action as it preempts his attack on an innocent.
If a guy is putting together a machine gun in his basement and the police decide to blow up his house to "prevent" him possibly using the gun to shoot innocents then that is a preventive attack.
The former can be allowed in a limited number of circumstances, the latter can't.

i love this show!!! go peter wishing you all the best from australia!
the only thing i would disagree was when the guy talked about iran and israel and shooting the enemy..etc… i think he is completely wrong! now i like ron paul’s view on iran, they are not the ones going to blow up the US etc the us government and israel are always partnered to threaten iran with all these sanctions and calling the elections fraud etc total bs! and then when the puppet afghan government is wrought with fraud oh no that isn’t posted all over the internet with the president slamming them… pfft all the u.s and israel is portraying the arabs like some enemy and pushing moderates into radicalisation because of their policies and killing of innocent civilians in both gaza and afghanistan!

I liked this Yaron Brooks guy until he said Iran was "threatening" anyone. I'm sure he probably uses the Ahmadinejad quote about erasing the Israeli regime from the pages of time. The Israeli regime IS horrible, what Likud is doing to Palestinians is inexcusable, and the current political regime DOES need to disappear. None of this means Iran threatened aggressive nuclear action at all. I'd like to know when the last time Iran invaded or attacked anyone was! Never!
Rights Said,

Actually, sir, Iran has sponsored attacks against the United States already, most notably on November 4, 1979, October 23, 1983, and September. 20, 1984. The United States military has every right to deal with Iran.

Ayn Rand definitely left too much leeway for wars, in a very odd collective-guilt rationalization that some of her worshipers (like Peikoff) have turned into outright advocation of genocide. Rand had a lot of important things to say, but it's important to cast a skeptical glance at her, too, something the ARI and other Randroids never do. (To their credit, I would note that a big part of my own journey towards understanding and advocating liberty was reading an ARI-provided copy of Anthem in my 10th grade english class, complete with insert for a "rational dating advice" or some such hyper-Randian nonsense).
One minor nitpick, the third video isn't at all about the Libertarian Party, which is never mentioned in it. It's about the libertarian movement. Big difference (though watching those four talk about the sorry state of the LP would have been a great discussion).

Yaron said so many good things for most of the show, of course, until he spoke of war. He sounded exactly like a warmongering neo-con when the Iran issue sprouted. He says he left Israel in search of freedom, yet he supports collectivist warmongering. I wonder if he supports the Israeli actions against the Palestinian people. Its interesting how they suffered so much in under Hitler, yet most of their actions emulate him. This has always fascinated me. Yaron, you do not love freedom, check your premises. Warmongers are not libertarians.

By far, this is the best show on TV! I only wish more people could see this. Can it be replayed on TV over the weekend as well? The other thought is to please prepare a list of "must read" books and other materials that we can read to better educate ourselves and our children. I pick up such information here and there from different sources, but a "short" list of the best sources for such information posted on this website might be helpful.

I'm replying to the general idea that Libertarians are supposed to be anti-war. I don't know what most Libertarians believe today, but from about 30 years ago, the Libertarian view was that our Federal govt had one ultimate task, and that was national defense. With muskets, cannon, and an ocean separating us from the major threats, our stance could be one of pure defense. But Pearl Harbor, nevermind 911, changed that. And it is certain that nukes and ICBMs have blown a purely defensive stance all to hell. On the other hand, we should never have stepped foot in either Afghanistan or Iraq without a formal declaration of war for specifically stated reasons, and with specific goals that would terminate. I don't think we'd have necessarily gone to Iraq at all if we'd held ourselves to the Constitution.
Jaycephus Said,

A missle shield is about as Libertarian as you can get. It says that "you can do what you like, but I will defend myself if you fire at me."
Removing the missile shields and preventing their further development is what is going to force us to act proactively to prevent rogue governments from destroying a city in the US, Europe, or any of a number of cities in the Middle East.
Avi Said,

Every freedom loving person should support the war that Israel is waging against Islmo-fascism. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself for making the analogy between the calculated murder of six million innocent Jews in WW2 and the casualties resulting from an entirely justified self defense practiced by the Israelis. As an Objectivist Yaron Brooke is more libertarian then you will ever be, Libertarianism is not Pacifism.

self defense is NOT building settlements, using white phosphorous and depleted uranium, herding people with fences and checkpoints and choking off water resources, bulldozing homes and murdering orders of magnitude more of the other side.

Actually Iran has been funding Hamas for years.I agree with almost everything Yaron said except the role of government. Its one role is to protect American Liberty.
jay76 Said,

The 1979 and 1983 attacks by Iran were retaliations because the freedom lovin' US of A overthrew a legitimate government that Iranians had and installed the puppet Shah in its place for access to the oil.
It's called blowback. Read Imperial Hubris by Michael Scheuer. The man knows a thing or two about blowback.

Yaron exposed himself as a disgusting neocon at the very end… it's not America's responsibility or obligation to protect other countries.

Building a missile defense shield in eastern Europe will protect America how?
By shooting down missiles that cannot reach the other side of the planet? Sorry, I don't buy that neocon logic.
If the US were building a missile defense shield IN THE US, that would be a different story. There would be lots of things still questionable about that initiative, but it would be a very different story.

Dr. Brook was awesome until he started talking about foreign policy, and I'm a bit troubled that Mr. Schif didn't call him out on it. It would have been interesting what a younger freedom lover like Shelly thought about it, but she didn't get a chance to say. For what I would consider a better view of Obama's decision to remove the missile shield, see blog posts by Bob Higgs and Lew Rockwell:

When will they stop? The destruction of Palestinian lives is not calculated? If you live in reality you would understand that genocide is genocide, just because 6 million of your people died does not give you the freedom to act like genocidal maniacs. Yes, libertarianism is all about mass murder, indoctrination, and never end war. I guess I am confused.
